DSM Dyneema is a founding sponsor of Below 100, helping to fund the organization since its inception, providing critical support as Stockton and fellow trainers throughout the United States advance the mission of reducing preventable in-the-line-of-duty deaths to a number below 100 each year. Although much progress has been made in the past several decades, the 100 or fewer line-of-duty-deaths figure has not been achieved since 1943.

'We are thankful for the support DSM Dyneema has provided Below 100 since the organization was little more than thoughts written on a napkin,' said Stockton. 'Our growth is attributable in no small part to DSM Dyneema getting behind us in the very beginning, and continuing to support us as we have trained tens of thousands of officers with intensive sessions designed to help officers save their own lives as they protect their fellow citizens.'

After the training session, DSM Dyneema presented Stockton with an award honoring Below 100 for its success in helping to reduce line-of-duty deaths for law enforcement officers. Awards also were provided to Below 100 trainers Victor Bosch and John Costello. Bosch and Costello went above and beyond the call of duty in their service to the organization and their fellow law enforcement professionals in 2016; the two translated Below 100 training materials and provided training sessions in Puerto Rico, the first-ever in that territory.

In addition, DSM Dyneema honored the Burlington, NC Police Department, presenting Chief Jeffrey Smythe with an award recognizing the agency for its implementation of Below 100 tenets. The participation of officers in Below 100 trainings, and widespread adoption of the organization's principles, are part of a series of steps the agency has taken that led to recent recognition by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund as a Comprehensive Safety award winner.

'We are enthusiastic in our support for Below 100, and pleased with how effective the organization has become during our 7 years of involvement,' said Sophie Wray, marketing manager for U.S. law enforcement, DSM Dyneema. 'Providing officers from North Carolina information that can help save their lives is something we are proud to do. DSM Dyneema has two facilities in the state, including the Greenville plant where we manufacture the Dyneema material used in ballistic vests that protect many of those who attended the training, so this education session gave us the opportunity to give back to the heroes from our home community.'

About Below 100

Below 100 is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of volunteer trainers. The organization's mission is to reduce line-of-duty deaths to fewer than 100 per year, a figure not seen since 1943. Using compelling common-sense training designed to focus on areas under an officer's control, Below 100 seeks to eliminate preventable line-of-duty police deaths and serious injuries.

Five core tenets comprise the Below 100 curriculum:

  • Wear your belt.
  • Wear your vest.
  • Watch your speed.
  • WIN - What's Important Now?
  • Remember: Complacency Kills!

The organization's priority is best exemplified by the value statement: Honor the fallen by training the living.
