Committed to creating value across three dimensions - people, planet, and profit - DSM combines its leading innovation and scientific research capabilities to enhance people's quality of life and addressing regional and local trends, including pressing issues in society.

Roeland Polet, President of DSM Engineering Plastics said, 'As the largest plastics and rubber trade fair in Asia, CHINAPLAS is also widely recognized by the industry as one of the most influential exhibitions in the world. DSM's materials cluster is honored to participate in this event. Through collaboration, we can demonstrate our latest products and solutions that support the four key trends shaping the future of China - economic prosperity, innovation, sustainability and vitality - as outlined in various key strategies by the Chinese government including the 13th Five-Year Plan, 'the Belt and Road' initiative and 'Made in China 2025' strategy. We look forward to creating synergy through the exchange with our customers and other partners, accelerating the progress of the entire industry together.'

Visitors to DSM's booth will be able to view sustainable and innovative solutions that address key global and local trends and challenges. This includes a broad range of material solutions that meet present and future product development demands in the automotive and electronic industries.

The company will be presenting its Connected Cars solutions at the booth which clearly spells out the future of cars where all individual parts of the vehicle - under the hood, inside the passenger compartment, on the exterior - will be connected via smart electronic devices integrated within an overall 'intelligent' design. Connected Cars will drastically change the way people drive, just as smartphones have changed the way people communicate. All are becoming part of the Internet of Things, IoT. Apart from this, New Energy Car is yet another rising trend. Through developing HV component, E-motor and battery for New Energy Car, DSM continues to scale new heights in material technology for the automotive industry.

A key challenge for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in this context will be the need to develop next-generation cars full to the brim with advanced electronics. The more electronics in a car, the more it weighs; but cars need to be lighter in order to burn less fuel and have lower CO2 emissions. This need to cut weight is even more critical when applied to electric vehicles, which today still have much lower range than cars powered by internal combustion engines. Engineering thermoplastic materials from DSM can provide many answers to this dilemma. DSM scientists work around the clock, across the globe, on innovative sustainable, high-performance materials that enable thinwall and lightweighting concepts.

In addition, visitors will also be able to experience:

  • DSM Engineering Plastics high-performance engineering thermoplastic solutions with applications across key markets including electrical and electronics, automotive and packaging. DSM material solutions such as ForTii®, Stanyl®, Arnitel®, Arnite®, Akulon®, Xytron™ and EcoPaXX® enable manufacturers to produce products with enhanced performance that meet stringent standards across various industries including electronics, lighting, automotive, appliances and aviation.
  • Carbon with Dyneema®, a breakthrough hybrid composite solution. Dyneema®, the world's strongest fiber™, significantly improves the performance of pure carbon composites in terms of impact resistance, vibrational dampening and weight. Ongoing projects will be highlighted that demonstrate how Carbon with Dyneema improves the performance of sports and automotive motorsports products that currently rely on pure carbon composites.

Jason Zhang, Commercial Director for Greater China of DSM Engineering Plastics said, 'Rooted in a strong sense of social responsibility and customer relevancy, DSM has an emphasis on sustainable development through innovation. Apart from responding to changing customer and consumer demands for sustainable products and solutions, our materials and development direction of solutions across different businesses also contributes to creating a more sustainable China by tackling climate change and air pollution. Through reinforcing our direction towards sustainability, promoting a healthy development in the materials market and keeping ourselves abreast of the latest trends, we can help optimize an environment that upholds common interest in society.'
