Gouda - Royal Imtech N.V. (European technical service provider) reports that it has received an intention to award from Alliander N.V. (contracting division by commission of Liander N.V.) for the installation of smart electricity and gas meters, including interior remediation works.

Gerard van de Aast, CEO of Royal Imtech N.V.: 'We are delighted with this notice of intent from Alliander to award this long-term contract to Imtech. The combination of experience in the customer process, the process management, efficiency and scalability made the breakthrough. We value the trust that is being placed in us, to be able to, also via this project, play a major role in achieving the Dutch government's climate objectives.'

Climate objectives
To achieve the 2020 climate objectives, the European Commission has stipulated that by the end of 2020, 80% of the inhabitants of the European Union must be provided with a smart meter. To realise this, the Dutch government called into existence the large-scale offer from 2015 to 2020 with the aim to have offered a smart meter to 100% of Dutch consumers.

Smart meters
At the end of this period, the expectation is that 80% of the Dutch population will have a smart meter, which will offer them the opportunity to gain more insight into energy consumption, generation of their own energy, and energy feed-in. Alliander N.V. decided to take advantage of the large-scale offer in order to carry out certain remediation works in the meter cupboard alongside the installation of the smart meters. The whole project includes more than two million meters and is split up into two lots.

Long-term contract
As the main contractor for one lot, Imtech Traffic & Infra (Unit Energy) will be entirely responsible for the customer process right through to the exchange of the electricity and gas meter and the remediation. This also encompasses the logistics concerning the delivery of the electricity and gas meter and the contact with the customer. It is a framework contract, in which the initial contract value is some tens of millions of euros during the course of the contract.

The preparatory works start in April 2015. The installation starts from October 2015 and runs through to 2020 (69 months). The period from 2021 to 2023 will be used to replace the remaining meters.
