RJ sponsors 50 orphans on the occasion of its golden jubilee 2014-01-28

Royal Jordanian signed an agreement with the National Zakat Fund under which the airline will sponsor 50 orphans within the orphan support program of the Zakat Fund.

The agreement was signed in the presence of the Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places Hayel Abdul Hafeez Daoud, Chairman of the Royal Jordanian Board of Directors Naser Lozi and RJ President/CEO Amer Hadidi, as well as Acting General Manager of the Zakat Fund Mohammed Lozi.

According to the agreement, Royal Jordanian will provide 50 orphans with financial support as decided by the fund. The fund will ensure that orphans get monthly financial support and constantly provide RJ with information that demonstrates the eligibility of the orphans to such support, through social surveys conducted by the fund periodically for this purpose. The agreement allows transfer of support from an orphan to another, based on the results of these studies.

In light of this agreement, Royal Jordanian will also launch an advertising campaign urging local community, institutions and citizens, to lend support to more orphans, help them to afford the cost of living, studying, health and various necessities of life.

Dr. Daoud expressed appreciation for the generous initiative of the national carrier of Jordan and its cooperation with the Zakat Fund to sponsor orphans on the occasion of the airline's 50th anniversary. He expressed hope that the media campaign that RJ will launch will spur the local community to sponsor more orphans, who are in great need of help.

Hadidi stressed that this step embodies the actual meaning of RJ's responsibility towards the community and strengthens its interaction with the local society as part of the RJ's vision, which it proudly translated on ground for the past five decades.

Hadidi said that the initiative of sponsoring 50 orphans comes right after the airline's announcement that it launches a 50-scholarship program that finances 50 bachelor degree students; of these, 30 scholarships will go to outstanding achievers from the Jordanian community, 15 to children of RJ employees and five to children of retired RJ employees.

Royal Jordanian will use various media channels and means to deliver the intended message to a targeted audience. The step aims to encourage more companies and citizens to sponsor orphans through advertising in local newspapers, magazines, radio stations and RJ sales offices in Al Abdali and the 7th Circle, in addition to distributing leaflets to passengers on board RJ flights that cover 60 destinations around the world.
