With Lemonbeat, RWE has introduced the first innovative communication standard for the Internet of Things that paves the way for further success on the market. The new Internet language is to be marketed by Lemonbeat GmbH under the leadership of Holger Wellner. Wellner was previously Head of Product Management at RWE Effizienz GmbH and managed the business area of home automation, RWE SmartHome, which is where the Lemonbeat protocol originated.

Lemonbeat - new RWE company develops language for the Internet of Things

'With Lemonbeat, we have succeeded in developing a new language that solves one of the main problems in the Internet of Energy,' says Dr Arndt Neuhaus, CEO of RWE Deutschland AG. 'Founding a separate company enables us to effectively establish this standard internationally.' The aim of the new company is to promote the standardisation of Lemonbeat, acquire new business partners and continue to develop the range of solutions for application. Until now, the Lemonbeat protocol has only been available for use in various devices through preconfigured chips or software licences.

Lemonbeat addresses a key issue of the Internet of Things. The IoT is dependent on communication and interaction between vastly different devices and applications. In order to for this to work, they must speak the same language. RWE has created this language, which is the new standard 'Lemonbeat smart Device Language' (LsDL). Lemonbeat can be used as an integrated solution or as a means of communicating with other transmission methods such as Thread, Bluetooth, WLAN or Ethernet. It therefore serves as a common platform. Moreover, Lemonbeat is also highly compact, yet flexible enough to allow for further expansion. This makes the standard suitable for both simple devices and complex industrial machines.
