The spanish minister of public works, Ana Pastor, praises the Panama Canal expansion works during her visit


The Minister drew attention to the extremely advanced stage of the infrastructure, "almost 95% completed", which will allow the expansion to become operational in early 2016.

The Minister of Public Works Ana Pastor visited and praised the advanced stage of the works on the Panama Canal on Wednesday together with honored guests that included the Minister for Canal Affairs, Roberto Roy; the Chief Administrator of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), Jorge Quijano; and the CEO of Sacyr Construction, José María Orihuela.

The Minister drew attention to the extremely advanced stage of the infrastructure, "almost 95% completed", which will allow the expansion to become operational in early 2016.

After installing the last gate, the consortium Grupo Unidos por el Canal (GUPC), led by Sacyr, will begin to flood the locks in the Atlantic sector over the next few days. More than 20 million cubic meters of water from Gatun Lake will be used to finish flooding the two sets of locks.
