Sadyt will complete the construction design, upgrade and expansion of the current IDAM in two years and will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of all the plant's facilities over the next 13 years.

ABAQUA, the Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency, attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Territory of the Government of the Balearic Islands, has awarded Sadyt, a Valoriza Agua subsidiary, an 8.9 million-euro joint contract for the construction design, upgrade and expansion as well as the operation and maintenance of Formentera's seawater desalination plant (IDAM) and its adjacent facilities.

Key features of the contract include:

- Expansion of the current IDAM (built in 1995) to a production capacity of 5,000 m3/day in order to meet Formentera's present and future water needs.

- The use of state-of-the-art desalination technologies for maximum water quality and energy savings.

This contract increases Sadyt's presence in the Balearic Islands, where the company has been operating since 2006 under a contract for the construction, operation and maintenance of the Alcudia desalination plant in Mallorca, with a production capacity of 14,000 m3/day.
