The highway will be completely operational in the coming months

On Monday, Sacyr Concesiones put the first section of the La Serena-Vallenar highway into service. Sociedad Concesionaria Rutas del Algarrobo is in charge of the 100 km section that connects Chile Regional Limit III with Vallenar.

The company will invest a total of 300 million dollars (264 million euros) and run the concession for 32 years. The highway will be completely operational in the coming months.

The concession is located between the Third and Fourth Regions of Chile (Atacama and Coquimbo, respectively). The 187 km highway will pass through the municipalities of La Serena, La Higuera and Vallenar and connect many communities such as Incahuassi, Cachiyuyo and Domeyko. The highway will have two sections: the recently opened part and an 87 km divided highway section that runs up to the city of La Serena.

Sacyr is the leading construction and concession company in Chile and currently manages an investment of 2.3 billion dollars (1.840 billion euros) through 7 public works concession contracts, of which the following are under construction: La Serena Ovalle (85 km); Accesos a Iquique (80 km); Concepción-Cabrero (103 km); Américo Vespucio Oriente (9 km) and Antofagasta Hospital (670 beds).

Sacyr Concesiones currently operates the highway between Vallenar and Caldera. On November 4, 2014, it put 31 kilometers of Route 1 in Accesos a Iquique into service, where Sacyr is working on the recovery of Cuesta El Pampino, which was affected by the latest earthquake, thus ratifying Sacyr's commitment to infrastructure development.
