A new video on the Anacostia River Tunnel was published today. This project is being carried out in Washington DC, in the United States and represents one of the Group's main works to support clients that wish to safeguard the environment.

The next milestone is expected in March 2018, when the project will be delivered to the client, DC Water and Sewer Authority.

The video centers on the Clean Rivers project, whose objective is to reduce millions of litres of untreated water flowing into the Anacostia, Potomac and Rock Creek rivers. This will be possible thanks to four tunnels, among which the Anacostia River Tunnel and the Northeast Boundary Tunnel (NEBT). This last contract was awarded last year to the Group.

The Clean Rivers project will be completed in 2023, with a cost of about $2.7 million.

The project, during the 3rd edition of the ITA Tunnelling Awards 2017, last November, in Paris, received the Sustainability of the Year award, as it contributes to improving the quality of life in the capital of the United States, making the city safer and putting it at the forefront in terms of environmental sustainability.

The tunnel, built within the Anacostia Project, connected to the Clean Rivers project network, contributes to reducing the volume of wastewater and runoff that flows into the Anacostia River by 98%. It also helps to reduce the probability of flooding in the Washington, D.C. area from 50% to 7%.

The tunnel is 23 feet (7 meters) in diameter (internal) and varies in depth from 50 to 160 feet (15 to 48 meters). Its construction represented a great challenge for the Group as it passes under the Anacostia River, a railroad, a subway and an interstate highway.

The Anacostia River Tunnel is one of the biggest and most complex projects in the United States built by the Salini Impregilo Group. It confirms the Group's leadership in underground water works and its dedication to supporting clients in safeguarding the environment.
