Having already won four awards from the German Energy Agency (DENA) since 2013, Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG) perpetuates this series through its award-winning 'Heat recovery from the ladle heaters in the meltshop' project as a flagship project for energy efficient waste heat utilization.
The prize is a renewed affirmation of Salzgitter Flachstahl's activities in the context of the energy efficiency project, and specifically acknowledges the optimization of the steelworks already under way in the area of ladle management. The construction of seven new ladle heaters with recuperators has enabled significant fuel/energy savings to be achieved through preheated combustion air and an optimized sealing system. The volume of energy saved and recovered each year amounts to around 110,000 GJ, which corresponds to the average demand for heating from natural gas of around 1,400 single family households.
