Ronaldo A. Geron appointed as the new Philippine Bureau of Immigration Chief Commissioner

Malacañang Palace - President Benigno Aquino Jr. has appointed Deputy Executive Secretary Ronaldo A. Geron as new head of the Bureau of Immigration, replacing Attorney Siegfred B. Mison.

This announcement was released by the Philippines' Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary and Spokesman Emmanuel Caparas as Ronaldo A. Geron took his oath on January 6, 2016.

The Bureau of Immigration is an attached agency of the DOJ.

Outgoing Deputy Executive Secretary Ronaldo Geron is the new Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner, replacing Siegfred Mison.

Geron has served the government in various capacities for more than 20 years. He was provincial administrator of Batangas and provincial board member.

The former assistant executive secretary for legal affairs graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 1987, and was admitted to the Bar in 1988. He also taught local governments and law at the University of Batangas.

Mison welcomes replacement

In a statement on Thursday - January 7, 2016, Mison welcomed Geron's appointment, encouraging everyone in the Bureau to give as much cooperation and teamwork as they had given him in the past four and a half years as Commissioner.

Interim Effect of this Change

There have been slight delays on recent applications since December 2015, partly due to impending appointment of the new Chief Commissioner for Philippine Immigration, and partly due to the long holidays celebrating the Christmas season.

These slight delays are not expected to cause a huge impact on the normal Bureau of Immigration processes.
