Additional Documents Required for Legal Representative's Work Permit application

With immediate effect, Shanghai Labour Bureau will require the following additional documents for Work Permit (WP) application for Legal Representative of any Company registered in Shanghai:

  • A copy of Educational Certificate (at least Bachelor Degree or above),
  • A copy of Work Experience Letter / Reference Letter from Employer (should have at least 2 years of working experience)
  • A copy of Labour Contract with Chinese entity or assignment letter from Company's Headquarters.

Previously, Shanghai Labour Bureau did not require the above documents to process Work Permit application apart from the usual passport copy and CV / Resume and application letters.

Impact on Employers In Shanghai

The above new requirement will impact employers who plan to hire foreign national as Legal Representative or change of Legal Representative in Shanghai entities. Employers need to ensure that the above mentioned additional documents are available for Legal Representative's Work Permit application.
