SAP : Healthcare Organizations Expect Significant Impact from Digital Transformation in Next Two Years

The findings reflect a study of almost 400 global C-level healthcare executives who participated in the SAP Digital Transformation Executive Study: '4 Ways Leaders Set Themselves Apart.' The study was designed to track the value of key technologies driving digital transformations of healthcare companies.

While lacking substantial impact from digitalization efforts so far, respondents expect significant impact over the next two years in the areas of customer satisfaction (61 percent) and innovation (59 percent), according to study results. The finding supports the fact that healthcare organizations are planning to invest most heavily in Big Data and analytics (76 percent) and cloud technologies (65 percent) in the next two years.

'Digital innovation will fuel the next wave of breakthroughs in healthcare and accelerate the broader shift toward data-driven care for health organizations,' SAP Health Global President Thomas Laur said. 'Unlocking actionable data insights in real time is critical for the future success for value-based care.'

While healthcare organizations see the value of digitalization, just 2 percent have completed digital transformations across their enterprises, while 54 percent of the organizations are testing or piloting digital transformation programs.

Forward-thinking organizations are applying SAP Health platform technology to connect data across their enterprises and across outside practices to deliver near real-time data and analytics for improved patient outcomes.

• 'The shift to pay-for-performance programs and quality measures has necessitated a strong digital transformation strategy, which reinforces our focus of providing the best possible care for patients,' said Dr. Philip Styne, Florida Hospital Chief Medical Information Officer. 'The Florida Hospital Innovation Lab (FHIL) and Florida Hospital medical staff have partnered with SAP Health to create an application that facilitates collaboration among quality administrators, clinicians and patients.'
• 'Our CancerLinQ platform has leveraged SAP Health expertise and the in-memory computing capabilities of the SAP HANA platform to derive near-real-time data and analytics for critical decisions,' said Kevin Fitzpatrick, chief executive officer of CancerLinQ LLC, a nonprofit subsidiary of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). 'Having the right platform and rules around data sharing and coming together to share best practices and drive improvements are the hallmarks of true digital transformation.'

This announcement was made during the World Health Summit, being held in Berlin, October 15-17, 2017.
