PRESS RELEASE Toothfish & Rock Lobster: Good fishing campaign New actions towards the preservation of the resource

Reunion Island, 14 May 2013 - 8:30am (Paris Time)

Good fishing campaign for the Southern Seas activity

Historical deep-sea fishing operator in the French Southern and Antarctic Territories (TAAF) from
Reunion Island, SAPMER proves once again its 'skills' with the completion of a good fishing campaign.
After 2 campaigns of 60 days, done between December and April, the Austral, Freezer pot lobster vessel, sailing under French flag, came back to Port in Reunion Island. The crew, 49 sailors (46 of which are from Reunion Island) under the command of Yannis Gavaudan, 1st Reunion islander to be in
command of the Austral, fished the entire quota allocated by the TAAF administration.
It is therefore 380 tons of Rock Lobster (Jasus paulensis) that were fished at low depth around the Islands of Saint-Paul and Amsterdam (at 3 000km south of Reunion Island) then packaged and frozen (raw of cooked) on board, before being unloaded and placed in the cold rooms in Reunion island. Highly prized by Japanese, 80% of these Rock Lobsters are exported to Japan, the rest being for the Reunion Island and main land France markets.
In regards to Tootfish fishing, 3 longliners, Albius, Ile Bourbon and Mascareignes 3 have already fished their allocated quotas (around 800 tons each) and Croix du Sud should soon be returning to Reunion Island. Caught at great depth (down to 2 500 m) in the southern seas, around the Islands of Kerguelen and Crozet, Patagonian Toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) is solely fished using the deep longline technique. The catch is verified by the on-board TAAF observer, embarked on board each ship. Toothfish sales are mainly done in Japan, Asia, the USA, Canada and Reunion Island.
The 2012/2013 fishing campaigns for the 3 ships were achieved in optimum conditions with an average of 182 days at sea and 4.4 tons of Toothfish fished per day. These performances allow the saving of Diesel and bait and are proof alone of the good state of the resource.

The Austral ship is being used for the POKER III evaluation of the resource campaign.

In regards to the POKER evaluation campaigns, Austral, co-owned by SAPMER SA and ARMAS PECHE SAS and managed by SAPMER, will be at the TAAF administration's disposal, who is in charge of the POKER III campaign.
This campaign of evaluation of the halieutic resource of the Kerguelen plateau, will take place between August and October 2013.
The ship's fitting will be done by SAPMER SA. Austral and its crew will be in charge of transporting the members of the scientific team and will take care of the on-board logistics necessary for the successful completion of the mission.

Next meeting:

Annual General Meeting, 21 May 2013 Reunion Island.

Next Press Release: 1st half 2013 revenues, on August 1st, 2013 before stock market opens.
