August 15, 2017, Moscow - Holders of Sberbank's Visa Electron cards can now use their smartphones to make purchases using Android Pay.

"We want all of our clients to be able to use the most convenient payment methods. Contactless payment via smartphones has found popularity among many of our clients, and starting from today will be available to everyone who holds a Sberbank Visa Electron card," commented Svetlana Kirsanova, Head of Sberbank's Transaction Business Division.

To pay for a purchase using Android Pay, simply unlock your phone and hold the back of the phone next to the contactless payment terminal. One touch is also enough to pay for purchases in applications and online shops. Customers can set up Android Pay in the Sberbank Online mobile application.

If a customer uses Android Pay, their card number is not transferred anywhere, a virtual account is used instead. Payment data is protected even if the customer loses their phone: using Remote Android Control service they can lock the device, set up a password, or delete all personal information from it. It is also possible to add Sberbank cards to Android Pay using the eponymous application available for download from Google Play.
