Nationale Suisse Art Prize 2014: prize winner Thomas Moor exhibiting at LISTE

16.6.2014

Thomas Moor, winner of the 2014 Art Prize presented by the insurance company Nationale Suisse, is showing four examples of his work in a solo exhibition at the LISTE Art Fair in Basel. They will be on display throughout the international fair for young artists from 17 to 22 June 2014.

Swiss artist Thomas Moor (born 1988) is one of the young generation of artists whose works are being shown at this year's LISTE Art Fair in Basel. The object and performance artist will be making a solo appearance at LISTE as the winner of the Nationale Suisse Art Prize 2014. Thomas Moor is showing four works which, at first glance, exude a beguiling casualness and charm. A wall painting, a number of photographs and an old fashioned device instil a calm sense of déjà-vu in the viewers, who don't find themselves immediately confronted with the wildly unfamiliar.

Thomas Moor is exhibiting the following works: "HERE'S TO: UBS Art Collection: 'on-site artworks': Jenny Holzer: Truisms", a series of photographs sampled from art collection catalogues; a wall painting from the "Mood Paintings" series; "We could be sweet lovers in the night", a photograph of the artist; and a thermo-hygrograph which is being shown in the context of his installation "We spotted the ocean".

Solo exhibition is part of the Prize
Thomas Moor's solo exhibition at LISTE is part of the sponsorship award presented by Nationale Suisse, an insurance group that specialises in art. Together with prize money of CHF 15 000, the exhibition is designed to help launch the artist's career. The winner is chosen by a jury consisting of individuals from well-known art institutions. This year's jury consists of Fanni Fetzer (Director of the Kunstmuseum Lucerne), Helen Hirsch (Director of the Kunstmuseum Thun), Dorothee Messmer (Director of the Kunstmuseum Olten) and Sabine Schaschl (Director of the Museum Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich).

About the Nationale Suisse Art Prize
The Nationale Suisse Art Prize is the first national sponsorship award for students graduating in the visual arts and media at Swiss universities of applied sciences. The Art Prize was first awarded in 2004 and underscores the long-standing commitment made to Swiss art by the insurance company Nationale Suisse. Rather than promoting artists who have already made a name for themselves in the art scene, the prize supports young, up-and-coming talents just embarking on their careers. The prize money is designed to give the artist a financial helping hand in his or her career in art, and by financing an exhibition for the winning artist at LISTE - Art Fair Basel, the Art Prize gives the artist the opportunity to reach both experts in the field and a broader public.
