CeBIT 2013: IT security as a value driver for authorities and organisations

21.02.13

[Essen/Hanover, 21 February 2013] At this year's CeBIT, the focus is on "Shareconomy": the sharing and joint use of data, knowledge and resources. Structured collaboration of this kind - be it among colleagues, with customers or partners - can prove to be extremely profitable for organisations and authorities: thanks to powerful IT infrastructures with flexible communication options, the smart, mobile world of work allows information and data to be exchanged rapidly in a targeted manner. But many enterprises underestimate the risks posed by the cyber world or overestimate their own IT security.

At CeBIT between 5 and 9 March 2013 at Stand B61 in Hall 12, secunet will be showcasing the latest IT security products and services that allow for an efficient and safe Shareconomy.

Information security is not only a by-product from an obligatory duty, but is now also seen as a decisive value driver: a negligent IT security policy can not only result in substantial damage to the company's image in the event of a successful industrial espionage attack or sabotage, but also paralyse entire production processes. For this reason, the Allianz für Cyber-Sicherheit (Alliance for Cyber Security), for example, founded by the German Federal Office for Information Security and the BITKOM industry association, works together with the German industry to deal with this ever more important subject.

The Alliance offers an important information platform for companies, authorities and ITC providers concerning cyber security. As one of the IT security partner of the Federal Republic of Germany, secunet is heavily involved in dealing with the challenges presented by the cyber world: the proposal from the German Federal Ministry of the Interior to introduce an obligation to report critical cyber attacks is currently causing controversial discussions among the BITKOM industry association and the German IT Security Association, TeleTrusT. secunet sees the proposal as a supporting measure in the fight against possible "cyber epidemics".

"Critical infrastructures require special protection, as they are irreplaceable in the maintenance of public life," said Dr Rainer Baumgart, Chairman of the Management Board of secunet, evaluating the current security situation. "The German industry must also recognise the value of information and data security."

For 15 years secunet has been one of the leading companies in the German IT security sector and not only develops high-security encryption solutions, but also performs research and tests together with national and international institutions and organisations on future-orientated solutions such as the use of tablets in high-security environments or the use of separation technology.

At this year's CeBIT, secunet will be presenting

  • high-security storage, processing and transmission of sensitive data - mobile or stationary - with SINA
  • working securely online - protection of sensitive data even with unlimited Internet usage with secunet safe surfer
  • efficient network encryption - proven to be secure, simple and fast with the Layer2 encryption solution SINA L2 Box
  • sensitisation for increased information security through IT security awareness
