- Named "Leader in Wastewater Treatment for Chemical Industrial Parks" at ChinaWaterNet's prestigious China Water Industry Annual Award
- Sembcorp's Changzhi Total Water Management Plant in Shanxi province designated as a government-to-government showcase project

Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) is pleased to announce that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp China, has won in the "Leader in Wastewater Treatment for Chemical Industrial Parks" category in the China Water Industry Annual Award 2013. The Award recognises Sembcorp's achievements in providing industrial wastewater treatment within chemical industrial parks in China over the past decade, as well as its success in securing new wastewater treatment projects in the Panjin Fine Chemical Industrial Park in Liaoning province and Caofeidian Chemical Industrial Park in Hebei province in 2013.

Organised by ChinaWaterNet, China's most influential environmental media, the award ceremony took place on March 29, 2014 in Beijing. The judging criteria included the company's branding, industry influential power and standing in the industrial wastewater treatment segment, as well as recommendations by water experts from various organisations.

Besides winning the ChinaWaterNet's award, Sembcorp's Changzhi Total Water Management Plant in Shanxi province has also been designated as a joint showcase by the governments of China and Singapore for integrated water management.

The total water management plant will be the Group's first foothold to tap into the coal-to-chemical sector to support a coal-to-diesel project in Changzhi city. Expected to be completed in phases between late 2014 and 2015, it will provide up to 57,600 cubic metres per day of industrial and potable water, 81,600 cubic metres per day of demineralised water and 984,000 cubic metres per day of cooling water, and treat up to 24,000 cubic metres per day of high concentration industrial wastewater and 9,600 cubic metres per day of high salinity industrial wastewater. The plant will also be capable of reclaiming up to 38,400 cubic metres per day of water from treated industrial effluent, achieving "zero liquid discharge".

The Changzhi Total Water Management Plant is the second of Sembcorp's projects to be selected as a government-to-government showcase - the first being its award-winning Zhangjiagang industrial wastewater treatment and water reclamation facilities.

Commenting on the industry and government recognition, Alan Yau, CEO of Sembcorp China, said, "We are deeply honoured to be recognised as the leading industrial wastewater treatment company in China. We are also pleased that our Total Water Management Plant for a large-scale coal-to-diesel project in Changzhi city, Shanxi, has been selected as a government-to-government showcase project. These two achievements, being recognition accorded to Sembcorp by China's water industry and the governments of both countries, are strong testimonies of our solid track record and contribution. We are confident that we will continue to support China's growth with our innovative water solutions, and contribute towards the sustainable development of China."

Sembcorp's industrial wastewater treatment business currently has eight operations across six provincial regions in China. Together with its energy business, Sembcorp's utilities presence spans 10 provincial regions with 24 operations across China.
