- Named "Leader in Water Treatment for Industrial Parks" at ChinaWaterNet's prestigious China Water Industry Annual Awards

Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) is pleased to announce that its wholly-owned subsidiary Sembcorp (China) has won the "Leader in Water Treatment for Industrial Parks" Award at the China Water Industry Annual Awards 2014.

Organised by ChinaWaterNet, China's most influential environmental online media, the award recognises Sembcorp's technical, operational and management excellence in providing water and wastewater treatment solutions to industrial parks in China, as well as its success in securing and implementing water projects which support China's industrial growth while helping customers and cities to conserve water resources and protect the environment.

"We are honoured to be recognised as the leading provider of water solutions in China's industrial parks. This attests to the capabilities we have built up in areas such as industrial wastewater treatment and total water management. Backed by our strong track record and capabilities, we will continue to support the central government's drive towards a more sustainable environment," said Alan Yau, CEO of Sembcorp (China).

Present in China's national industrial parks such as Zhangjiagang Free Trade Port Zone, Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park and Tianjin Harbour Economic Area, Sembcorp has proven capabilities in supporting China's recent environmental initiatives, including the policy of promoting third-party participation in reducing pollution in industrial parks. In terms of industrial wastewater treatment, Sembcorp was the first in China to introduce the concept of developing, owning and operating third-party centralised facilities which can take multiple streams of concentrated industrial wastewater directly from companies in an industrial park, and effectively treat it to meet environmental limits without any pre-treatment required by the customers.

Last year, a significant milestone was the acquisition of an industrial wastewater treatment plant in Jiangsu province. Targeted to be completed by early 2016, the industrial wastewater treatment facility in the Lianyungang Lingang Chemical Industrial Park will be reconfigured and upgraded to treat high concentration industrial wastewater directly from source. Supported by the Jiangsu Environment Protection Department, this transfer-own-operate project, with a capacity of 20,000 cubic metres per day, offers a model that can be replicated in other industrial parks across Jiangsu and other provinces.

Besides providing industrial wastewater treatment, Sembcorp's total water management capabilities of integrating water supply, wastewater treatment and water reclamation into a closed loop have also earned strong endorsement. For instance, its total water management facilities in Changzhi city of Shanxi province and in Zhangjiagang Free Trade Port Zone in Jiangsu province were selected by the governments of Singapore and China as showcase projects of bilateral cooperation in water management.
