Senex Energy : flying high with the RFDS

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Pilatus PC-12 aircraft (VH-FXN) badged with the Senex Energy logo is currently in operation throughout South Australia.

Senex committed a further $300,000 over the next three years to RFDS Central Operations at the beginning of 2017, and since then VH-FXN has conducted a total of 537 aeromedical evacuations of critically-ill or injured patients throughout South Australia to major Adelaide hospitals for life-saving or specialist care. This includes five interstate transfers of critically-ill patients to Victoria for treatments such as cardiovascular surgery on newborn babies.

More recently, the Senex-badged aircraft was utilised for an outback emergency. It was carrying the first RFDS team to respond to an Adelaide man who had suffered severe burns after falling into a hot artesian bore near Mungerannie in the South Australian outback, 800 kilometres north of Adelaide. The aircraft was already flying in the region to deliver a scheduled fly-in GP health clinic when the alert was raised. The crew spent almost two hours stabilising the patient on the ground while a second RFDS aircraft with a MedSTAR retrieval team on board departed the RFDS Adelaide base to evacuate the critically-ill patient and subsequently transfer to the Burns Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Senex was pleased to hear the patient survived, but has a very long road to recovery.
