Serco has appointed award winning design label ten30 to design the uniforms for the new Caledonian
Sleeper service which commences on 1st April 2015.
Based in Glasgow, ten30's Alan Moore was awarded the 2011 Best New Designer prize and has gone on to work with the likes of Johnnie Walker one of the oldest whisky brands, and House of Fraser, one of the UK's largest department stores. Using tweeds, tartans and other materials produced in Scotland, Alan will be responsible for designing the new uniforms for the Guest Service team. The uniforms will be traditional yet contemporary - exemplifying the best of Scottish fashion and textiles.
Serco's plans to transform the Caledonian Sleeper service into an outstanding hospitality offering that is emblematic of the best of Scotland are well under way. This includes all aspects of the operation of the Caledonian Sleeper franchise; marketing, sales, hospitality service on the trains, vehicle maintenance and the provision of facilities at stations for guests.
Commenting on the partnership, Alan Moore said: "Here at ten30, we are really excited to be working with Serco, transforming the uniforms to offer a traditional yet contemporary style that shows off the best in Scottish textiles. Transport Minister Derek Mackay said: "This new contract between the Caledonian Sleeper and Scottish design house ten30 is fantastic news for Scotland.
"A key specification for the new service was that it should be emblematic of the best of Scotland and, as well as showing off what Scotland has to offer, this deal will be a boost for our textiles industry and for Scottish
business.

"The Caledonian Sleeper is often named among the world's must-do train journeys and rail is more and more being seen as the most stylish way to travel.
"These uniforms will be central to giving the new Caledonian Sleeper an identifiable image synonymous with
the best of Scotland."
The franchise, which is worth up to £800m over the 15-year contract period, begins in April 2015 and will see Serco manage all aspects of the Sleeper service including marketing, sales, the on-train hospitality service, vehicle maintenance and the provision of facilities at stations for Sleeper passengers. The franchise has been split from the main ScotRail franchise to meet Transport Scotland's vision of transforming the Sleeper service into a truly emblematic and guest focused service for passengers travelling between Scotland and England.
A fleet of new carriages will be introduced in 2018 which include a range of new features; ensuite berths, Pod flatbeds - used for the first time in rail, and a brasserie-style Club Car. Passengers will also benefit from a new website to book their tickets and will be offered a broader range of fares, earlier boarding of trains and the ability to manage their journey virtually. Over £100m will be invested in the new fleet which is part funded by a £60m capital grant from Scottish Ministers and will be built by leading rolling stock manufacturer Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF).
