Serco to continue to support critical Army training

Media Release Serco to continue to support critical Army training 15 October 2014

Serco has been awarded a further 12 month extension to its existing Contemporary Operating Environment Force (COEFOR) contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide training and support to the British Army prior to deployment on operations around the world. The new extension will start in December
2014 and is valued at £8m.
The original two-year contract, started in April 2012 and this option for a fourth year, awarded by the British Army's Headquarters, will see Serco continue to deliver the service to the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force until December 2015.
Under the COEFOR contract, Serco delivers critical pre-deployment training to prepare UK military forces for worldwide deployed operations. All troops deployed to Afghanistan over the past two years have benefitted from this world-class realistic training. The support includes recreating realistic training scenarios, providing language and cultural understanding skills and simulated casualty training. Serco delivers the programme in partnership with a number of small and medium sized enterprises to supply some of the specialised training services such as cultural and language skills, demonstration personnel and casualty simulation.
COEFOR provides training that takes place wherever the military require it, from Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire to various world-wide locations. In providing this training support, Serco and its partners are able to deliver
a professional and realistic training environment which is continuously updated with lessons from operations and therefore enables military personnel to have the most realistic training possible before they deploy on operations.
Bertie Young, Serco's Contract Director for COEFOR, said: "We're delighted to have been awarded this extension to our contract. We are proud of the support that we have given over the past [two years] and we will continue to work closely with the military to develop our support and ensure that we provide the very best training environment for our Armed Forces."
Serco is a leading provider of training services to the UK Government and other nations and provides helicopter flying training and fixed wing pilot training to the Royal Air Force (RAF) and supports the operation of the Emergency Planning College, the International Fire Training Centre and the Defence Academy.
