Serco to provide facilities management services at new

Scottish hospital

1 October 2014

Serco has been selected as the Facilities Management (FM) partner for NHS Dumfries and Galloway's new district general hospital. Serco is part of High Wood Health, a consortium led by Laing O'Rourke that is the preferred bidder to design, build, finance and operate the new £200 million hospital.
Under a contract which has a value of over £40m, Serco will provide Estate Management Services for the
25 year operational term.
This prestigious project builds on Serco's successful health FM portfolio in Scotland, with the proposal grounded in a proven track record with Laing O'Rourke to deliver flagship healthcare facilities and with the operational and technical excellence demonstrated by the Serco teams at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and Wishaw General Hospital.
Construction of the new hospital will begin in the spring of 2015, with patients arriving in the spring of 2018. The new 340 bed, 60,000 sq. metre facility will transform the way care is delivered for the people of Dumfries and Galloway.
Commenting on the announcement, the NHS Board's project director, Dennis O'Keeffe said the decision followed an "intense period of competitive dialogue and evaluation".
"Their (High Wood Health) proposed solution is one that brings to bear a consortium of designers and contractors with considerable expertise and resources to fulfil our expectations."
Jeff Ace, Chief Executive for NHS Dumfries and Galloway added: "This is the major milestone that we have been working towards for months now, along with two bidders who have produced the final designs for the kind of facility that we need so that our staff can deliver the best care possible for our patients."
Marlene Boyd, Serco's Contract Director at Wishaw and Forth Valley Hospitals, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to have been chosen to provide the estate management for this prestigious new hospital and to be part of Highwood Health. I'm really proud of the teams that deliver award-winning FM services at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and Wishaw General Hospital and everyone is looking forward to this exciting new
project."
