Serco's Customer Centre in Bolton celebrated 10 years managing child maintenance cases on behalf of the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) by hosting a party for children and teachers from Thomasson Memorial School on Friday, 23 September and handing over a cheque for more than £300.

Serco has proudly supported the local school - which teaches children with Special Educational Needs or children on an Education Health and Care plan - for the past nine years and has raised over £30,000 in total during that time.

Over the past two weeks, the Serco team has arranged a variety of fundraising activities to celebrate its 10 anniversary, including a 'Big Fat Quiz of 2006', raffles, sporting events and selling 'Bolton's finest' Carrs Pasties and cupcakes.

As a result of these efforts, Serco was able to hand over a cheque for over £300 to the school, while children enjoyed party food and games put on by Serco employees.

Mr Wilson, head teacher at Thomasson Memorial School, commented: 'The children at Thomasson have benefitted enormously from our relationship with Serco. The company's generous donations have funded sports equipment, days out on educational visits and fun events such as 'Inflatable day'. Serco has also given our Choir the opportunity to 'sign - sing' at Christmas time when they provided a party and presents for the whole school.'

Gary Blanchard, Serco's Operations Director, added: 'I am immensely proud of the entire contract team for all that we have achieved together over the last 10 years. Since 2006, we have collected and paid out nearly £1bn in child maintenance and it's great to mark our 10 year anniversary by raising even money for such a fantastic local school.'

Garry Robinson, Serco's Customer Service Director, said: 'The last 10 years have seen us deliver so much for our customers and their families, while also providing some fantastic opportunities and experiences for our colleagues, most of whom live locally. We have forged a strong partnership with DWP and delivered life changing outcomes for the families that we serve. On a more personal note, I want to pass on a huge thanks to everyone, past and present, who have played their part in our success.'
