Serco : HMP Lowdham Grange donates £16,500 to Victim Support Charity

HMP Lowdham Grange, managed and operated by Serco on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, has today made a donation of over £16,500 to Victim Support, an independent charity for people affected by crime and traumatic events in England and Wales.

As part of the prison's Responsible Citizen programme, the money has been raised by 50p deductions that are taken from all prisoners who earn over £25 per week. This money has been collected since 1998 and is today being donated to the Nottinghamshire Young Witness Scheme, part of Victim Support.

Mark Hanson, Serco Contract Director at HMP Lowdham Grange, said: 'Donating this money to a local charity that supports victims of crime is a great way of putting something back into the community and we are delighted to be able to do it.'

Commenting on the donation, Olwen Edwards, Account Manager at Victim Support, said: 'We are thrilled to have been given this major contribution and we will be able to use it to help young people from Nottinghamshire who have been affected by crime and are worried about attending court.'

The cheque was handed over by Mark Hanson of Serco at Nottingham Magistrates Court.
