Serco : SQCC prisoners create indigenous art for Wallabies

Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) runs an indigenous art program which helps indigenous prisoners reconnect with their culture and tell their story through a visual medium. Through SQCC's association with well-known indigenous artist Rob Henderson, three SQCC indigenous artists were invited to create a painting celebrating the 14 indigenous men who have played for the Wallabies. The three panel painting has now been transformed into a mural near Suncorp Stadium.

We're excited to be involved in this event, which has allowed prisoners in SQCC to express their indigenous heritage and contribute to a significant piece of public art in the city. Reparation is a vital aspect of changing prisoners' outlook and supports our work in reducing reoffending. Importantly, it also helps indigenous prisoners reconnect to country.

The artists are rightly proud of their work and hope that the original paintings will take pride of place in Australian Rugby's new headquarters in Sydney.
