Serco's Marine Services team yesterday (Thursday 5 May) helped North Ayrshire Council securely transport ballot boxes full of votes for the Scottish Parliament election from the islands to the mainland for counting.

This important task was undertaken by SD Oronsay and SD Clyde Spirit, two vessels normally used to support the Royal Navy, which are based at Greenock and Faslane respectively.

SD Oronsay transferred the ballot papers for handover to Council officials from Millport to Largs pier, while SD Clyde Spirit transported those from Brodick to Ardrossan.

This is the third time that Serco's Marine Services team has supported the Council at election time, having also assisted with the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum and the 2015 UK General Election.

The team will be in action again next month carrying the ballot boxes for the EU Referendum on 23 June.
