In this lab focus article we explore SGS's facilities for the inspection and testing of consumer goods in Bangladesh.
SGS has two laboratories in Bangladesh covering the consumer goods and retail sector - Dhaka, founded in 2003, and Chittagong, founded in 2012. With a combined personnel of 278 people, these laboratories cover a wide range products and services.
Both sites are accredited to ISO/ IEC 17025 and OSHAS 18001, with the Dhaka facility also receiving provisional acceptance as a Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) laboratory and approval as a ZDHC Approved Trainer Provider (ATP).
Main services
Supporting the consumer goods and retail sector, we offer a comprehensive range of services between our two Bangladeshi sites, including:
Dhaka
Chemical testing: azo dyes, allergenic disperse dyes, carcinogenic dyes, PFCs, VOCs, organotins, chlorinated phenols, phthalates, formaldehyde, pH, pesticides, SVHC, ZDHC, heavy metals, etc.
Physical testing: tear strength, tensile strength, pilling, dimensional stability, print durability, fiber composition, color fastness tests, flammability, etc.
Carton testing: edge wise crush resistance, carton bursting strength, grammage of paper and paperboard, etc.
Functional testing: wicking, air permeability, water repellency, water resistance, stain resistance, etc.
Water and waste water testing: BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, heavy metals, etc.
Microbiological testing: total coliform, fecal coliform, total plate count, E.coli, salmonella spp., staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacteriaceae, etc.
ZDHC and detox waste water and sludge testing
Chittagong
