On November 1, 2017, SGS in Bangladesh hosted the grand opening of its new textile and footwear facilities in Dhaka, the country's capital.

These newly expanded state-of-art facilities offer customers in the textile and footwear industries a full range of services, helping industry stakeholders to have quality assurance from production to final product.

At the ceremony, SGS was represented by Executive Vice President Mr. Richard Shentu and Global Softlines Vice President Mr. Spencer Yeung, as well the company's local Managing Director Mr. Olivier Bornand and Business Manager Mr. Abdur Rashid.

The grand opening of these facilities begins a new chapter for SGS in Bangladesh and brings with it the opportunity to partner with clients at a much deeper level.

According to the BGMEA, more than 80% of Bangladesh's total exports come from the textile and apparel industry. In the last decade alone, the country's leather and footwear industry has grown by more than 1000%. With increasing demand for textile and leather sourcing in Bangladesh, these new facilities can better serve international and domestic clients for both physical and chemical testing.

During the ceremony, Mr. Shentu said: 'SGS is committed to investing in world-class testing facilities and Bangladesh is an important market for us. With a burgeoning textile, leather and footwear sector, serving domestic and international markets, it is important for manufacturers to have access to the best testing facilities. SGS's investment in Bangladesh ensures that our testing laboratory is capable of performing the right physical and chemical tests for international and national standards.'

In addition to its Dhaka laboratory, SGS has a second lab in Chittagong. This allows the company to perform the full range of consumer product testing services in Bangladesh. SGS in Bangladesh seeks to provide top notch services and to partner with textile and footwear clients. Back in July, SGS Bangladesh hosted five seminars to help industry suppliers to understand more about the zero discharge goal and wastewater and sludge treatment.
