Two EDGE projects - one certified and one audited by SGS - have been nominated in the fifth Transformational Business Award Ceremony, which will take place in London on June 6, 2018.

The award, launched by The Financial Times and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, highlights innovative, long-term private sector solutions to major development challenges.

Three projects have been nominated in the 'Achievement in Transformational Infrastructure: Green Buildings' category. Two of these have received EDGE Green Building certification by SGS and SGS/thinkstep - the Mother & Baby Unit of the Kumasi Hospital in Ghana and Capital House EcoHome Phuc Loi in Vietnam.

EDGE Certified Mother & Baby Unit of the Kumasi Hospital, Ghana

For Kusami Hospital's new Mother & Baby Unit (MBU) in Ghana, green design is a matter of necessity. Eric Gené, CEO and Founder of ABP, knows from his experience in developing green hospitals that the savings from reduced operational expenses can be channeled towards life-saving strategies.

SGS/thinkstep audited and certified Kusami Hospital's new MBU, confirming the achievement of 56% energy, 33% water and 43% embodied energy savings.

Rebecca Akufo-Addo, First Lady of Ghana, raised funds for the MBU through The Rebecca Foundation and appointed Africa Building Partners (ABP) for the construction of the new hospital facility, which was completed in January 2018.

The First Lady of Ghana commented during the inauguration: 'The facility we are commissioning today is world-class. More importantly for me is the fact that it is the only green hospital in Africa certified by EDGE.'

EDGE Certified Capital House EcoHome Phuc Loi, Vietnam

Ecohome Phuc Loi is the first low-price, eco-friendly apartment project in Vietnam. As IFC's exclusive certification partner in Vietnam since 2015, SGS provided EDGE green certification, confirming the achievement of 29% energy, 30% water and 39% embodied energy savings.
