SGS has received the Industry Appreciation Award from the Canadian Special Crops Association (CSCA) in recognition of the company's contribution to the Canadian pulse crop industry.

SGS Canada's Agriculture and Food Division was presented with the Industry Appreciation Award by the CSCA, at their gala banquet during the Pulse and Special Crops Convention 2016 held in Toronto, Ontario. More than 500 local and international delegates, watched as Fraser Gilbert, Senior Director of Business Development accepted the award on behalf of the organization.

This award is conferred on organizations in recognition of the contributions made to promote and support the special crop industry in Canada. It is recognition of the work and dedication of the entire SGS Canada Agriculture and Food Division team to its stakeholders. As one of the company's longest serving employees, Fraser had the distinct honor to go up on stage and accept this award for SGS, highlighting in his remarks the contribution SGS Canada has made to the pulse crop market and the important relationship that exists between SGS Canada and CSCA.

Canada remains, by far, the largest exporter of pulses in the world. In 2015 the country exported 5.5 million metric tons (MMT) and this year's forecasts suggest exports will reach 6.5 MMT.

'When SGS Canada opened its first agricultural inspection office, in 1998, in Winnipeg Manitoba, we were the first privately run establishment in Canada offering these services. Previously, all work had been carried out by the Canadian Grain Commission,' said Fraser. 'Since then, SGS has gained experience and expertise in the market and today we deliver extensive support to Canadian pulse crop export businesses.'

The CSCA is a national trade association representing companies' merchandizing Canadian pulses and special crops, including beans, chickpeas, lentils, peas, canary seed, buckwheat, sunflower seed and mustard seed. The association has over 110 members and represents over 85% of all pulse and special crop producers in Canada.
