SGS : Launches Homologation Services in North America

SGS has launched homologation and functional safety services in North America.

Building on its existing range of transportation services in the region, homologation services enable SGS to work with existing automotive companies seeking to certify their components, or vehicles, for sale and distribution in the United States and Canada.

'I am very excited to launch and grow this service offering within North America,' explained Pete Campbell, Director of Homologation Services, SGS. 'We look forward to serving the growing hybrid, electric vehicle and autonomous markets by supporting the selection and use of new technologies and components, as well as being able to serve our current automotive testing customers in new ways.'

SGS currently offers homologation services in Europe, Asia and South America. Expanding into North America enables the company to provide certification and functional safety services for any vehicle or component, be they for vehicles powered by gas, compressed natural gas (CNG), liquid petroleum gas (LPG) or diesel, as well as electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. In addition, SGS will also be able to introduce and register new companies with the Environmental Protection Agency, Air Resources Board and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, as well as European Union technical services.

In addition to consultative services, SGS also offers training and personal qualification programs in both homologation and functional safety. Other services include:

• Functional safety assessments, covering vehicle and system concepts for autonomous driving
• Certification of components used in autonomous driving architectures
• Review of safety assessment reports delivered by suppliers of systems and components
• Final functional safety assessment reports covering all safety relevant items.
