SGS : Premier North American Lab in Fairfield, New Jersey

In the latest of our series of Lab Focus articles we explore the flagship SGS lab facilities in United States.

The SGS New Jersey laboratory was originally founded as US Testing Company in 1880 and became part of SGS Group in 1963. The Fairfield lab now serves as North America's flagship facility for consumer product testing, serving the following consumer goods and retail product sectors:

• Apparel and textile
• Candles
• Chemistry for all product categories
• Detergents
• Food contact
• Furniture
• Packaging
• Seatbelts
• Toys and juvenile products

SGS Fairfield Features

The Fairfield lab serves as the gateway to services globally for consumer products, textiles, footwear, toys, hardware, housewares, formulated products, electrical and electronic goods and automotive products. The SGS Fairfield facility incorporates six distinct laboratories, covering a surface of 4,336m2. Accreditations and approvals received by this facility include:

• ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 17020
• ISTA
• CPSC
• DOT
• JMPA

Our technical team has resident experts in all business units across diverse consumer product sectors, as well as sustainability and social responsibility. In 2013, the facility opened a new on-site lab for detergents and household products.

Other SGS lab locations in the US include: San Diego CA, Lenexa KS, Brangburg NJ, Appleton, WI and an Electrical and Electronic Testing Center of Excellence in Suwanee, GA.
