ArcelorMittal Tubarão, an integrated flat steel producer in Brazil and one of the most important brands in the global steel industry, has awarded SGS a four-year contract for the maintenance of security and control valves.

ArcelorMittal Tubarão has a production capacity of 7.5 million tons of steel per year. As a result, regular maintenance of valves is required to ensure plant security, keep the operation running smoothly and prevent unexpected outages that cause financial losses. To carry out this vital maintenance, the company needed a partner it could trust. Having worked with SGS since 2005, ArcelorMittal Tubarão was confident that SGS would continue to meet its quality and safety requirements and adhere to time-sensitive schedules during maintenance shutdowns.

SGS will provide valve maintenance, helping ArcelorMittal Tubarão to avoid downtime on the factory plant, addressing any issues during the scheduled plant shutdowns, which occur several times a year. A specialist team of 30 experts will detect the type of maintenance required for each valve. Valves will then be removed, opened, serviced and reinstalled. If major repairs are required, the valve will be taken to the dedicated SGS workshop in the city of Serra. The team will also provide reporting to keep the customer up to date on all works.
