SGS North America Inc. today announced that it has become the first certification body to grant FSSC 22000 certification to the animal feed industry in US and Canada.

This new certification was granted to Land O'Lakes for their Purina Animal Nutrition entity, the first animal feed organization on the continent to receive this certification.

The FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System provides a framework for effective management of an organization's food safety responsibilities. FSSC 22000 is fully recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and is based on existing ISO Standards. It demonstrates that a company has a robust Food Safety Management System in place that meets the requirements of customers and consumers.

"We are very proud of this achievement and of the collaborative efforts of SGS," says Supreeya Sansawat, Vice President of SGS North America Food Auditing Services. "We are committed to quality, to understanding the growing changes and needs of the market and always, to the needs of our clients. We are excited to see what the future holds for FSSC 22000 in the animal feed industry." She also added, "We are confident that the standard will satisfy the needs of our clients and suppliers, worldwide."
