Learning How to Avoid Expensive Shutdowns with SGS's Non-Intrusive Inspections

More than 50 clients joined SGS technical experts last month to learn about non-intrusive inspections (NII) and avoiding shutdowns.

Hosted by SGS Pakistan at its headquarters in Karachi, two training seminars and live demonstration events introduced clients from some of Pakistan's largest oil, refinery, utility and steel businesses to advanced, non-intrusive, equipment inspections, removing the need for expensive shutdowns.

Customized training events

This NII training program was customized to ensure it met attending organization's business needs and was directly applicable to their procedures. Feedback from the event and live demonstrations helps to identify real time issues facing the industry today, as well as the concerns they expect to face in the near future. This enables SGS to develop better support services and solutions.

Led by Muhammad Aqeel, Operations Manager, SGS, the training encompassed:

  • What is Non-intrusive inspection
  • Advantage of Non Intrusive Inspection over conventional Internal Inspection
  • Recognition by International codes & Recommended practices
  • Methods available in lieu of internal visual inspections
  • When and where they can be conducted
  •  Appropriateness of NII
  • Non-destructive testing (NDT) as a non-intrusive tool

The live demonstrations, led by SGS non-intrusive specialists, engineers and technical experts, were the perfect opportunity not only to observe the techniques, but also to ask questions. Blue prints of the non-intrusive techniques and their applications were displayed and explained.

Delegates from companies included Pakistan State Oil, Pakistan Petroleum, Pak Arab Refinery, National Refinery, Lotte Chemicals, Trans Asia Refinery, Gatron Industries, Engro Vo Pak, K-Electric, Aisha Steel, Amerili Steel and Tuwairqi Steel Mills.
