The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Untied States (US) territories. An independent US government agency overseen by Congress, the commission is the US's primary authority for communications law, regulation and technological innovation.

The Process

The rules governing the sale various electrical & electronic products on the US market may require that such equipment be verified by the manufacturer, the importer, or an accredited Technical Competent Body (TCB), be authorised under a Verification, or Declaration of Conformity (DOC), or receive an equipment authorisation from the Commission by one of the following procedures:

  • Certification
  • DOC
  • Verification

The regulations cover any intentional, unintentional, or incidental radiator whose operating frequency is within the band of 9K-3000GHZ.

The label on these products shall be permanently affixed to the product and shall be readily visible to the buyer at the time of purchase.

FCC Verification

The following statement shall be placed on the products. When the device is so small or for such use that it is not practicable to place the statement, the information required by this paragraph shall be placed in a prominent location in the instruction manual:

This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

  1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and
  2. This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation
FCC Declaration of Conformity (DOC)
  • A product authorised based on testing of the product or system shall be labelled as follows: FCC mark + Trade name + Model number
  • A personal computer, if authorised ba sed on assembly using separately authorised components, should be labelled as follows: FCC mark + Trade name + Model number + "Assembled from tested components" + "Complete System not tested"

The applicant can be international, but must be registered on the FCC website for FCC Certification applications.
