SGS, the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, announced today its plan to open its fifth North American Life Science Services laboratory in Carson, California.

This investment will establish a Life Science Services GMP/GLP laboratory, with the ability to provide microbiological testing and bioanalytical services. The new facility will encompass 8,000 square feet, of which 6,000 square feet will be dedicated laboratory space and the other 2,000 square feet for offices, conference rooms, and client records. The new facility is projected to open early in the third quarter of 2014 and will initially employ seven scientific staff, with room to expand as the demand grows.

"We are very pleased to undertake this project because it allows SGS to establish a West Coast, Life Science Services presence to address the California pharmaceutical and biotechnology market", said Jeff McDonald, Chief Operating Officer, SGS North America. "This development permits SGS to leverage the bioanalytical testing expertise from the laboratory in Poitiers, France where SGS has over 700 validated bioanalytical assays to date", added Anne Hays, Executive Vice President, Life Science Services.

With 20 laboratories offering contract analytical and bioanalytical services, SGS leverages its wholly-owned global network, present in North America, Europe, and Asia, to deliver harmonized solutions to large pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms. In addition to testing services for the bio/pharmaceutical market, SGS also provides clinical trial management (Phase I to IV) and services encompassing data management and statistics, PK/PD modelling and simulation, pharmacovigilance and regulatory consultancy.
