Sherwin-Williams to Launch Most Comprehensive Deck Care System for Homeowners SuperDeck® Offers New Technology to Reduce Surface Temperature

CLEVELAND (April 9, 2015) - Just in time for summer, Sherwin-Williams introduces SuperDeck®, the most comprehensive deck care finishing system available. This extensive new line offers solutions for nearly any exterior wood project, with the look and finish DIYers crave, combined with fast-drying and long-life benefits they love. For example, features like the new SuperDeck IR solar reflective stains help keep surfaces cool even when temperatures are hot, meaning decks will look and feel great this summer, and for years to come.

"SuperDeck is the most complete line in the industry for finishing both wood and composite decks, offering homeowners easy application, fast drying time and incredible durability," said Karl Schmitt, senior vice president of market research, color and design, Sherwin-Williams. "Whether they are used for staining a new deck or restoring an old one, these products allow homeowners to complete projects faster with results that last longer without sacrificing quality or beauty."

SuperDeck can be applied on a variety of popular deck surfaces and wood types including new, uncoated, pressure-treated, weathered lumber, cedar and redwood. It's also available in a wide range of colors that complement Sherwin-Williams popular WoodScapes® stains for vertical wood surfaces - allowing for a fully coordinated look. The SuperDeck line features Duckback® technology, which protects wood from harsh ultraviolet rays, resists algae and mildew growth and sheds rainfall like water off a duck's back. The full line of products will be available in Sherwin-Williams stores nationwide beginning May 1.

Unique offerings in the new line include:

SuperDeck IR Reflective Waterborne Deck Stains

Children and pets, along with their parents and owners, will love SuperDeck's IR reflective technology. It contains pigments that reflect ultraviolet rays back into the atmosphere, thereby helping reduce the exterior surface temperatures of decks. As a result, wood decks exposed to the constant attack of direct sunlight stay cooler on the foot compared to conventional dark stain colors that can be difficult to walk on during warm, sunny days. This technology is available in three popular colors in both the Waterborne Semi-Solid Color and Solid Color stains.

SuperDeck Waterborne Semi-Solid Stain

Homeowners no longer need to choose between a wood look and a durable stain, thanks to a new semi-solid stain. It has a rich pigmented appearance allowing some natural wood grain to show through, while offering greater defense against weathering than a waterborne semi-transparent stain. It can be applied to damp wood and is fast drying, allowing for most projects to be finished in a single day so homeowners can enjoy their exterior space sooner.

SuperDeck Log Home and Deck Stain

For homeowners seeking a varnish look without as much work, this stain provides a great solution. The formula offers exceptional water beading properties and UV inhibitors for premium results, and its semi-transparent look highlights the natural beauty of wood - making it ideal for new wood surfaces.
