Siemens AG (>> Siemens AG) and Nokia Corp. (>> Nokia Oyj) are stepping up talks to end a six-year-old phone equipment venture, which might see a joint buyout of Siemens' 50% stake by Nokia and a strategic partner such as Alcatel-Lucent (>> Alcatel Lucent SA), Bloomberg News reported Friday on its website, citing three unnamed sources.
Discussions have accelerated as a shareholder agreement is set to be renewed in April and as Alcatel-Lucent prepares for the departure of its chief executive officer, the report cited the sources as saying.
Another possible option, though considered unlikely, would be an initial public offering of Nokia Siemens, the report quoted two of the sources as saying.
A Siemens spokesman declined comment, as did a Nokia spokeswoman and an Alcatel-Lucent spokesman, the report said.
