19 June 2015 - Singapore Airlines (SIA) will open the doors of the SIA Training Centre to the public for the first time, as part of the Airline's SG50 activities.

To be held on 25 July 2015, the SIA Open House will provide visitors exclusive access to behind-the-scenes training of the pilots and cabin crew of SIA. The one-day event will be held from 9am to 6pm.

Activities will include walking tours of the Flight Simulator, Safety Training as well as Cabin Crew training facilities. Visitors can also participate in an all-day carnival and visit the SIA Heritage Gallery showcasing SIA's development over the years.

Children aged between 4 and 10 can also participate in an exclusive Junior Cabin Crew Experience. This 60-minute activity will provide children an opportunity to don the iconic SIA cabin crew uniform, learn more about the renowned service attributes of crew, as well as role-play with a parent in a replica of the SIA A380 Business Class cabin.

Mr Christopher Cheng, Singapore Airlines' Senior Vice President Human Resources and Chairman of the SIA Open House and Art Competition Committee, said, 'It has been an exciting year for Singapore Airlines as we celebrate the nation's 50th Birthday while giving back to the community. Through the Open House, we aim to provide a unique and memorable experience for the public to see what goes on behind the scenes at SIA.'

In conjunction with the Open House, SIA has organised an art competition with the theme 'Celebrating SG50 with SIA: Growing with the Nation'. Secondary and tertiary students, up to age 30, can submit digital copies of artwork, accompanied by a brief description, up to 30 June 2015. Children aged between 3 and 12 can participate in an on-the-spot drawing and colouring competition on the event day.

Entry to the Open House is free for the public, with a nominal fee for certain activities. Registration to the Open House and the related activities opens today on the official website www.SIAopenhouse.com, where details of the Art Competition can also be found. All proceeds from the Open House and Art Competition will be donated to the Community Chest of Singapore.

Free shuttle bus services from Tanah Merah MRT Station and Singapore EXPO will be provided to and from the SIA Training Centre, which is located at 720 Upper Changi Road East. Visitors are advised to utilise the shuttle service as parking will not be available in the premises. The timetable of the shuttle service can be found on the official website.

The Open House and Art Competition are among a series of events organised by SIA to celebrate the nation's 50th Birthday. Others include the SIA Charity Run and Charity Gala Dinner held in 2014, which raised some $2.5 million for Community Chest. More than 300 beneficiaries of Community Chest, many of whom had never flown before, were also treated to a special flight on the world's largest aircraft, the Airbus A380, on 29 May 2015.
