'The close symmetry of SIA's history and growth with that of Singapore's provides numerous opportunities for artistic expression, especially during the momentous occasion of our nation's 50th Birthday. We are therefore very excited to reach out to Singapore's young artists on their interpretation of the journey which SIA has taken with that of our nation's, over the last 50 years.'

Senior Vice President Human Resources and Chairman of the SIA Open House and Art Competition Committee, Mr Christopher Cheng

13 May 2015 - Singapore Airlines (SIA) is organising an art competition, in conjunction with a planned Open House, as part of the Airline's SG50 activities.

In commemoration of Singapore Airlines' achievements and transformation over the years, the theme of the art competition is 'Celebrating SG50 with SIA: Growing with the Nation'. To encourage participation from the public, various categories will be incorporated into the competition for participants of different age groups (refer to Annex for more details).

The art competition will feature exciting prizes including tickets for travel on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, Scoot and Tigerair. Selected winning pieces will be displayed in SIA's SilverKris lounges around the world and featured in SilverKris magazine, SIA's award-winning inflight travel magazine.

Secondary and tertiary students, up to age 30, can submit digital copies of artwork, accompanied by a brief description of not more than 100 words, via www.SIAopenhouse.com up to 30 June 2015. Physical copies of shortlisted entries should be submitted from 8 to 15 July 2015 for further evaluation by the judges. Winners will then be notified and invited to the prize presentation ceremony during the SIA Open House at SIA Training Centre on 25 July 2015.

Children aged between 4 and 12 can also participate in an on-the-spot drawing and colouring competition during the SIA Open House. Parents can pre-register their children for the competition at $5 per participant via the SIA Open House website, which will be available from next month. All proceeds from the registration of the art competition will be donated to Community Chest of Singapore.

Mr Christopher Cheng, Singapore Airlines' Senior Vice President Human Resources and Chairman of the SIA Open House and Art Competition Committee, said: 'The close symmetry of SIA's history and growth with that of Singapore's provides numerous opportunities for artistic expression, especially during the momentous occasion of our nation's 50th Birthday. We are therefore very excited to reach out to Singapore's young artists on their interpretation of the journey which SIA has taken with that of our nation's, over the last 50 years.'

Details of the SIA Open House are to be announced at a later date. The Open House and Art Competition are among a series of activities by SIA to celebrate the nation's 50th Birthday. Others include the SIA Charity Run and Charity Gala Dinner held in 2014, which raised some $2.5 million for Community Chest. More than 300 beneficiaries of Community Chest, many of whom have never flown before, will also be treated to a flight on the world's largest aircraft, the Airbus A380, through the special SIA Charity Flight on 29 May 2015.
