Singapore Exchange (SGX) has appointed Lawrence Wong, head of Listings, as the head of its China business. Mr. Wong will have oversight of all of SGX's China businesses, as part of the company's expansion of its international presence.

Mr. Wong will be responsible for building SGX's business and relationships in China through exploring opportunities across equities, bonds, derivatives and commodities. He will relocate to China, and will continue to head the Listings business.

Prior to joining SGX in April 2006, Mr. Wong was General Manager of Schroders' joint venture for Greater China based in Shanghai as early as 1997. He was also involved in OCBC Bank's China business during his tenure as one of the bank's senior management team. He currently represents SGX as a member in seven collaboration councils set up by Singapore with Guangdong, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Shandong, Sichuan, Tianjin and Zhejiang to promote bilateral economic, business, trade and investment activities.

SGX has established a wholly foreign-owned enterprise (WFOE) in China and will be setting up branches in Shanghai and Beijing, in addition to its current Representative Office in Beijing.
