Singapore Exchange (SGX) and the National University of Singapore Investment Society ('NUS Invest') will jointly hold the next NUS-SGX Stock Pitch Competition on 13 February 2017.

This is an annual tertiary-wide competition targeted at students with a keen interest in equity research, providing them an opportunity to pitch stock calls to a panel of professional judges, comprising equity research analysts from financial institutions and finance academics.

This is the fourth year that SGX is supporting the NUS-SGX Stock Pitch Competition, and its second year co-sponsoring it with NUS Invest. The competition is open to students from NUS, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, SIM University, Singapore University of Technology and Design and Singapore Institute of Technology, across different faculties, including Business, Finance, Science and Engineering.

Simulating the fast-paced and high-pressure environment faced by investment managers and research analysts, participants will experience first-hand the rigour and demands of the equity research industry, which involves prompt review and adjustments to stock calls based on news flow and financial results of listed companies.

The information session for participants will take place on 4 February 2017, followed by the preliminary round from 4 to 9 February. The finals will take place on 13 February 2017 in the SGX Auditorium.

The top three winning teams will receive cash prizes of $1,500, $700 and $300, sponsored by SGX.

Lynn Gaspar, Senior Vice President for Client Development & Relationship, SGX, said, 'This competition is an extension of SGX Academy's efforts to engage young investors and fuel their interest and skills in equity research, company valuation, and personal investing. During the competition, the students will get to interact with industry professionals and have their investment ideas validated or critiqued by them. We hope that through the fast-paced 10-day competition, the students will get insight into how the investment industry works and gain confidence in personal investing.'

Prof Lee Hon Sing, Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of Finance, NUS Business School, said, 'This is a good opportunity for students to apply what they learned into industry work. Looking at available facts with fresh eyes, some students introduced innovative ways to perceive and analyse issues. This is a great platform to nurture and recognize the talents of tomorrow.'

The finals are open to public with limited seats available on a first-come-first-serve basis. For more information on the NUS-SGX Stock Pitch Competition 2017 and to sign up as a participant or audience, please visitsgx.com/academy.
