SingPost Distributing Free Stamps to Households

All households will receive a free stamp booklet along with a mailing guide by 1 October 2014

Singapore, 23 September 2014 - SingPost's 1,200 delivery staff have started delivering

10 million free stamps to 1.4 million residential households. Each household will receive a stamp booklet comprising six 1st Local stamps. These stamps are 1st Local stamps which take the prevailing postage rate of 30 cents from 1 October 2014. All franked mail customers will enjoy a 5% rebate for a year from 1 October 2014 till 30 September 2015.
Over the years, public letter mail has been on the decline with the prevalence of multiple e-communication platforms such as email, SMS and social networking sites, a trend experienced the world over. Today, the average Singaporean posts only six letters/cards a year.
One of those who will benefit from this initiative is 28-year-old administration executive Irene Law. She said: "I send donations to a charity organisation which I support twice a year. These free stamps are a bonus to me, helping me to save some costs."

SingPost will also be progressively distributing free stamps to over 130 charity homes for the elderly, young, disabled and other residential facilities. Each charity home will receive between 100 and 300 stamp booklets depending on the capacity of the facility.
Along with the free stamp booklet, SingPost is also taking the opportunity to give mailing and packaging tips to help customers/residents avoid delays in delivery or non-delivery, through a mailing guide. On a daily basis, about 14,000 letters/packets are not deliverable due to factors such as incomplete or incorrect address, no postage address or illegible handwriting. The mailing guide contains information such as the delivery standard for non-letters (3 to 5 working days), as well as mailing and packaging tips such as using good quality packaging materials, and ensuring that the address is correct and complete and with a return address on the back of the envelope etc. These useful tips can be found at http://www.singpost.com/send-documentparcel/mailing-a-http://www.singpost.com/send-documentparcel/mailing-a-packaging-tips.htmlpackaging-tips.html.
For consumers-on-the-move, they can download the free SingPost mobile application from iTunes or Play Store which enables them to locate the nearest post office or posting box, calculate postage and track their packages, among other functions.
The delivery of stamp booklets and mailing guides to households will complete by 1
October 2014. More information on the stamp distribution is available at www.singpost.com.
