Singapore, 2 February 2018 - 170 senior citizens from the Lions Befrienders (Ang Mo Kio) Senior Activity Centre (SAC) received festive bags (福袋) from over 20 Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) staff, as part of the SPH Staff Volunteers Club's annual 'SPH Cares with Bags of Love' event.
The festive bags contained a variety of basic necessities and festive items, which included rice, canned razor clams, biscuits, bottled drink, energy drink, 3-in-1 coffee, cream crackers, pain relief patches, shower foam, comb, clutch wallet, colouring book, towel, drawstring bag, Mandarin oranges and a copy of The New Paper. These were donated by sponsors Benelux Flowers and Food Pte Ltd, FairPrice Finest (The Seletar Mall), Paragon, Shape magazine, Unicurd Food Company (Pte) Ltd and Zincode Technologies Pte Ltd.
The seniors enjoyed some games with the volunteers, followed by Lo-Hei and a special CNY lunch. There was a wave of excitement when Mr Swee Kian Yang, Assistant Pre-Press Foreman of the Production Division dressed up as a God of Fortune and conducted another round of games with the seniors.
Lions Befrienders (LB) has more than 20 years of history in working with the community to provide friendship and care for seniors to age in place with community participation, enabling them to enjoy meaningful and enriching lives. Since inception, LB has reached out to some 20,000 seniors under their Befriending and Community Outreach Services, with the help of more than 3,000 trained volunteers.Managed by the Corporate Communications & CSR Division with the support of the Human Resources Division, the SPH Staff Volunteers Club was launched in 2010 to encourage active volunteerism among staff.
