SINGAPORE, 13 July 2016 - Singtel was recently conferred two titles at the 2016 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific ICT Awards - Telecom Group of the Year and Telco Cloud Service Provider of the Year. The first accolade recognises the Group for its robust financials and strong business performance in Singapore and beyond, while the latter recognises the strong execution of the Group's cloud strategy and its comprehensive range of cloud services.

Diversification boosts results of Singtel Group

Frost and Sullivan cited Singtel's regional footprint as well as subscriber and revenue growth as key factors for Singtel's win. Singtel's geographical diversification across India, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, gives the Group a reach of over 600 million mobile subscribers in Asia. This reach and diversification helped bolster the company's full-year results despite continued investments in network and spectrum and impact from currency headwinds.

'Singtel is one of the largest telecoms groups in the world. During the year, it registered strong financial performance, despite weak economic sentiments across the region. Cumulative revenue growth was primarily driven by the increasing adoption of mobile data services across all OpCos and investment companies. The trend was well supported by its associates, as subscribers in the regional markets continue their transition from traditional services to data-centric services. Its investments in 3G and 4G network infrastructure and new digital business opportunities supported its strategy to strengthen the core business and build new revenue streams,' said Mr Avinash Sachdeva, Senior Industry Analyst, ICT Practice - Asia Pacific, Frost & Sullivan.

'We are extremely pleased to be recognised as the leading Telecom Group in the Asia Pacific. Our Group performance has been bolstered by our geographical diversification across some of Asia's fastest growing economies as our regional associates witness substantial mobile data growth and start to reap the benefits of their extensive investments in 3G and 4G networks and services.' said Ms Chua Sock Koong, Group CEO, Singtel. 'Over the past four years, we have also been driving a transformation across our core Consumer and Enterprise businesses. We have reframed our business around data in response to changes in how customers communicate and how companies operate in the new digital economy. We see both awards as confirmation of our restructuring efforts, our focus on execution, as well as our financial strength and discipline.'

Effective delivery of cloud strategy

Frost and Sullivan also gave a thumbs up to Singtel's new ICT business in cloud computing, a new focus and key priority for the Group's Enterprise business as it sought to transform itself.

'Singtel has demonstrated industry leading growth in its revenues in 2015 which has helped it to become a dominant force in the Asia Pacific cloud computing market. The telco's strategy of developing a multi-cloud platform with orchestration capability and using experience of running G-cloud effectively was central to its success,' said Mr Sandeep Bazaz, Industry Analyst, ICT Practice - Asia Pacific, Frost & Sullivan.

'Our cloud business grew as enterprises moved rapidly from legacy on-premise IT systems to flexible cloud services to increase productivity and manage costs. We are well-positioned to capture this shift, having invested in a suite of cloud migration, delivery capabilities and a next generation cloud data centre. We are honoured to receive this Telco Cloud Service Provider of the Year award and will continue developing new solutions to help companies innovate, scale, and connect their operations regionally,' said Mr Bill Chang, CEO of Group Enterprise, Singtel.

In the last two years, Singtel hasstrengthened its cloud computing offerings by providing a greater choice of platforms and services, to cater for organisations which increasingly choose to host their data in the cloud. The company has also invested in key infrastructure, including a S$400 million data centre, which upon completion in 2016 is on track to be the largest in the country, and will increase the Singtel's network of data centres in the region to 13.
