Analyst Update: Financial Results, New Product, Expansion, and New Show

U.S. stocks closed lower on Tuesday amid sharp bond market volatility. The NASDAQ Composite closed at 4,976.19, down 0.35%, the S&P 500 fell 0.29% to 2,099.12, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished the day 0.20% lower, at 18,068.23. European stocks fell sharply on Tuesday as heavy bond market sell-off flustered investors. Germany's DAX 30 slipped 1.72%, France's CAC 40 tumbled 1.06%, and the London's FTSE 100 closed 1.37% lower on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Asian markets were mixed on Tuesday amid concern over Greece's future in the euro zone and interest rate cut in China.

On April 30, 2015, Exelixis reported financial results for the first quarter of 2015. Net revenues for Q1 2015 were $9.4 million, sharply higher than $4.9 reported in Q1 2014. Research and development expenses for Q1 2015 fell significantly to $22.3 million, from $54.8 million in Q1 2014, primarily related to a net decrease in clinical trial costs.

GE Oil & Gas announced on May 6, 2015 the development of the next-generation RootsTM advanced efficiency centrifugal compressor to significantly boost the energy efficiency of industrial air/gas and wastewater applications. The Company reported that compression energy accounts for up to 60% of entire plant operation costs because of its intensive energy use, and this next generation compressor will help operators reduce plant energy consumption significantly.

According to a news report by CemNet.com, Cemex Philippines, as part of its comprehensive expansion plan in the country, inaugurated a new PHP3bn (US$67.3m) cement mill at its Apo Cement plant in Naga City, Cebu, on May 5, 2015. President Benigno Aquino III inaugurated the 3,433-square-meter facility, which signifies the healthy prospects for the local cement and construction industries.

Alibaba Group, on May 7, 2015, announced financial results for March quarter 2015 and full fiscal year 2015. Revenue for the March quarter 2015 was RMB17, 425 million, up 45% YoY. In particular, revenue from the China commerce retail business increased by 39% YoY to RMB13, 049 million, driven primarily by the growth in commission revenue and online marketing services revenue.

According to a Yahoo News article dated May 8, 2015, SiriusXM Canada, the country's leading audio entertainment company, along with Postmedia, made an announcement of the launch of National Post Radio - a show that will tackle the issues of the day with some of the smartest opinion-makers in the country. The new show will air every weekday morning from 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. EST on SiriusXM's Canada Talks (channel 167), starting Monday, May 11, 2015.
