NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / March 14, 2017 / Supply and demand are the basis of the stock market. Sometimes demand is created through speculation, while other times it is based on the actions or inaction of key investors or stakeholders. Rarely does the price of a stock rise significantly due to the reputation of a single investor or company insider.

Sirius closed up Monday 25 cents a share to $5.44 ? a 4.8 percent rise. The company has seen consistent price return averaging 16 percent over the past 5 years. During its last reporting period, posted a 1 cent a share dividend. Some analysts say the current upswing in price is a classic example of a short squeeze, where a sudden surge in demand for the stock leaves demand far in excess of supply driving the price of the stock up. The second place competitor of Sirius is far behind, so Sirius can expect its earnings to steadily increase and the competition to remain at bay for the foreseeable future.

Herbalife shares were up $1.42 on Monday, for a 2.72 percent increase to close at $53.67 a share. One of the outstanding reasons for its rise is inside investor Carl Icahn, is reported to have bought 372,324 shares. It is a wager of sorts, as a movie is soon to be released by Bill Ackerman portraying Icahn?s Herbalife company as nothing more than a pyramid scheme. The movie, "Betting On Zero" is scheduled to be released in the Unites States on March 17th. Ichan?s additional purchase raises his stake in Herbalife to 24.57 percent of the company?s stock. For his part, producer Bill Ackerman has shorted $1 billion of stock to prove his point.
