Skanska's vast knowledge sits within almost 60,000 people with educational backgrounds that span from professors to highly skilled workers. During 2015 some of our senior scholars have received honorable tokens of appreciation from society, among them Elizabeth Heider and Ulf Håkansson.

Elizabeth J Heider, Chief Sustainability Officer in Skanska USA can now add a new honorable abbreviation to her title, FAIA, following her election to the Fellowship of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). AIA Fellow designation is awarded to individuals who have made contributions to architecture and society. Only about 3 percent of the approximately 106,000 licensed architects in the AIA have been recognized with this honor and less than one percent of "Fellows" are women.

Professor Ulf Håkansson, Director of Research & Development at Skanska AB, shared the first prize of the Sigge Thernwall Civil Engineering Award 2015. In the Swedish industry this award is commonly known as 'The Nobel prize in construction'.

For several years, Ulf has performed research within the technique used for grouting of rock to improve water tightness of tunnels. By means of using interdisciplinary research collaboration with the food industry, medical ultrasound technology has been developed to improve the steering and control during tunneling. The result of the work is now a commercial product that will imply a reduced environmental impact and create an improved working environment.

We are proud to have them in Skanska.
